How to Sell Online (Attraction Marketing Actually Works)

I got a great question from one of my followers which was: Hey Ina can you make a video on starting conversations with potential clients on Instagram.  

How do I reach out to someone that I’ve never spoken to before without sending spam dms. Now there is a secret to securing clients from instagram without having to send messages like this and that’s what we’re going to talk about today.

Let’s get into the good stuff when you send dms like this to people that you don’t really know you’re gonna struggle to get clients now why don’t these cold dms work. The reason is because you haven’t established a need first and this is actually the biggest mistake that I see people making when they’re trying to get clients on Instagram. 

Reaching out to people without establishing a need first is a waste of your time because you don’t even know if they are actually looking for what you’re offering but it’s also really annoying for the person on the other end because they’re just getting this message out of nowhere that’s asking them to buy something. 

So how do you actually determine before having spoken to someone in the dms that they have a need for what you’re selling. The secret is that you need to get permission to sell. So let me tell you a quick story. 

I used to have acne and it was a massive source of insecurity for me. It used to stop me from going out and showing my face on camera. This would never be an option um when I suffered from acne and I knew that I had a problem. That I was experiencing but I found it super embarrassing. 

Now imagine if i was just walking down the street and someone came up to me and was like oh my god you’ve got acne i can see you’ve got acne and i can help. I would be absolutely mortified because this is something that I’m embarrassed about and even though I know I’ve got this problem I haven’t said that I want someone to help me solve it. 

I still haven’t actually quite admitted to myself that I’m ready to get help and that is the mistake that a lot of you are making when you’re trying to get clients on Instagram. So you’ll come across someone’s profile, you’ll look at their content and you’ll establish a need and then you’ll reach out without getting permission first. 

Well all you need to do is to get those people that do need help to self-select and to basically just put their hands up and be like yeah can you help me? The best way to do that on Instagram is to use all of the features like polls and questions and quizzes in order to find those people that do actually need your help. 

I love using these because it allows me to find those people in my audience that are actually experiencing a problem so i’m not just trying to like to sell to everyone and make it really awkward i’m just getting those people that do need help to put their hands up so that we can have a sales conversation.

That actually generates clients then grab the freebie in the description box below because it’s going to tell you what to do step by step you don’t have to use polls. There are a whole host of features on Instagram that are going to allow people to give you permission to talk to them. 

Remember that’s the key thing you just want permission to have that sales conversation. Once you’ve done that it’s time to follow up in the dms. Now the key here is to actually remind them why you’re in their inbox because depending on how long it’s been they’ve probably forgotten who you are and you don’t just want to spring it on them out of nowhere. 

To do this you could say something like hey thanks so much for voting; yes in that poll that was asking you if you’re struggling to lose weight and now because you’ve actually established a need got permission and know that you’re talking to someone that’s actually interested in what you’re selling. 

Now it’s time to actually have that sales conversation and you’ve guessed it throughout that dm conversation you want to keep asking permission. 

A good way to do this is saying things like:

  • Would you like help with that?
  • Would you like to know more?
